Vibration Institute of Australia Training Slides

The following examples are from the slides used in the Mobius Institute classes.  Of course, there are a huge number of slides covering everything from the fundamentals of vibration through to advanced diagnostic topics.

A large number of the slides include animations and links to the simulations.

We cover maintenance practices (including predictive maintenance and reliability engineering) so that people can understand the benefits of the condition monitoring program, and how it fits into the bigger picture.

We begin with a very simple animation of a fan to explain the vibration waveform and spectrum, and terms such as frequency, period, amplitude, rms, peak-peak, etc.

We have developed a range of artwork and interactive simulators to help explain the FFT process and the spectrum.
We also cover the orbit in both a general sense and as a diagnostic tool.

We explain amplitude (and frequency) modulation from a theoretical (simple) point of view and demonstrate how it appears in the spectrum and waveform.

Beating is covered, as a many other signal phenomenon.
We use lots of case studies, and when we do, we can show the real "live" data, and play the signal through the computer speakers.  Being able to hear the vibration makes it easier to understand the waveform and the condition.
Lots of real data...
Lots of case studies.
We try hard to make it clear why faults occur, how the vibration pattern will look, and how to diagnose the fault.
And we do this with lots of fault conditions (depending upon the course you take).
Again, we use lots of case studies.  We use real data, and show how it changes as the fault develops.
In this case the bearing failed...
Of course, we cover demodulation (enveloping) and all other vibration analysis techniques.
We utilize excellent 3D graphics.
In this slide the rotor is spinning, and you can see the rocking motion - that makes it much easier to understand the topic.  And we have a large number of excellent animations.
More 3D graphics and animations.
More excellent graphics.
We cover balancing in the corrective action section.
Our simulations and animations will make the concepts and procedures easy to understand.
Each step is animated on the screen.
We cover shaft alignment as well.  (We also offer a separate alignment course.)

We have 3D animations that clarify all of the important concepts, and demonstrate procedures such as soft foot measurements, dial indicator measurements, laser alignment, and much more.

This animation shows how the stem may lose contact during the rotation of the shaft.

We also utilize real photos and movies.
More 3D animations.
Our resonance simulator, and the animations, make it easy to understand modes, natural frequencies, resonances, and their correction.
We can explain all of the measurements normally associated with bump tests, run-up/coast-down tests, negative and peak-hold averaging, order tracking and transient analysis.

And we use some great case studies.

Data from an Emerson Process Management case study.

This pump animates on the screen.

Here is the same pump in a modal test.
And in a finite element analysis test.

We discuss the changes that can be made to correct resonance conditions too.

This is just a sample from the huge number of professionally developed slides.  We have strived to make them clear and simple; making it easier for you to stay focused and keep up with the class - and excel in the exam.
